Diagnostic delays in vasculitis and factors associated with time to diagnosis

Abstract Background Patients with vasculitis, a set of rare diseases, encounter delays in obtaining an accurate diagnosis which can lead to substantial morbidity and increased mortality. This study sought describe the diagnostic journey patients vasculitis identify factors associated time diagnosis. Methods enrolled online registry completed two-stage study: Stage 1: survey open-ended questions about patients’ journeys perceived rapid or delayed diagnosis; 2: specific based on data from 1 additional investigator-identified factors. Results 375 participated 1; 456 2. 85% were seen by healthcare provider within 3 months onset symptoms. The median was 7 months. 313/456 (73%) misdiagnosed initially. 40% diagnoses made hospital setting; 2% at specialized center. 60% had least visit emergency room prior Unemployment, travel medical center > h, initial misdiagnosis, seeing specialist all longer times 373/456 (82%) reported that negative consequences their health. Conclusion achieving these are health consequences. Both patient-related healthcare-related delays.
